Iordanes; Excerptum ex Gallica historia

Lorsch (?), 2. Drittel 11. Jh.

The manuscript contained historiographic works by Iordanes on the Goths or rather the Romans (De origine actibusque Getarum und De summa temporum), between which the so-called Excerptum ex Gallica historia had been included. In 1879 the manuscript was sent to Theodor Mommsen in Berlin for research purposes. In the night of the 15th to 16th July the manuscript was almost completely destroyed by a fire in Mommsen’s room.
The remains have not been digitized due to conservational reasons. Only four black and white negatives, held in the photo archive of the ÖNB in Vienna, with images of some handwritten notes on the incident as well as of some charred pages, foll. 84r, 87r and 93v, have been digitized.
